If your driveway is cracked, chipped or otherwise looks like it has seen better days, don’t assume that you have to go to the expense of having it completely replaced. There are several ways it can be repaired to look as good as new without leaving a big dent in your wallet.

Seal Coating

In colder climates, large driveway cracks can be caused when water gets into smaller cracks, freezes and turns into ice which makes the crack bigger. People who live in warner climates will notice cracks that have been caused by prolonged exposure to the sun. In either case, seal coating is an ideal method to remove cracks and give your driveway a smooth surface.

Seal coating is applied to an asphalt surface with a brush or by spraying it directly onto the driveway. After the seal coating has dried, it will protect the surface of your driveway from water getting in to cause cracks and other damage.

Asphalt Paving

If you are interested in giving your driveway a new look without completely replacing it, either seal coating or asphalt paving can give you that. When completed, a driveway or parking lot made up of these materials can give your home or business a polished look that can cause its value to increase significantly. Asphalt is a substance composed of sand, stone and liquid. It creates a strong and durable surface that can withstand all types of weather, foot traffic and being driven on multiple times a day.

Application to Improve Your Driveway’s Appearance

A tar and chip application will give your driveway an exposed aggregate look that is very aesthetically pleasing. It is a very labor intensive undertaking, but the end result will speak for itself. Driveway gravel and grading may be some final alternatives to consider when upgrading the look outside your home, since they can turn an ordinary driveway into something that is pleasing to look at as well.
